Byzantine Museum

On the square of Kato Livadi you’ll find the Church of the Analipsis (Ascension), granted by the Holy Metropolis of Kythera to locate the collection of early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine art. The collection contains murals, religious paintings and objects of religious ritual, icons, silver and metal objects and ceramics. Many of these exhibits are the result of the work conducted in the monuments of Kythera over the last thirty years by the Archaeological Service, in order to prevent the destruction of church murals. The most impressive exhibits are the fragments of an early Christian mosaic floor from the church of Agios Ioannis at Potamos and the detached frescoes from the arch. The museum is open daily and a small admission fee is charged for entry.
